We use this verb when we talk about relationships ending.

Split up

• Meaning: This has a similar meaning to "break up." We use this verb when two people separate and end a relationship. It can also be used when a group separates such as a band.

• Grammar tip: This phrasal verb is not separable- you cannot add anything between "split" and "up"

• Examples: "When did the Beatles split up?" or "My parents split up when I was five years old."
