8 Ways to Respond to a Surprise in English

When was the last time you were really surprised and wanted to express your appreciation for something that someone did for you?

Did you know how to express your state of mind in English?

This weekend we surprised my dad for his birthday!

He didn't know that some of us would be coming to spend the weekend with him.

When he found out that we were there, he was totally surprised.

Have you ever been surprised by anything?

In today's lesson, you will learn how to express your surprise and how to thank the people that surprised you.

 

 

How to express surprise and appreciation!

#1)  "Wow, I can't believe it. This is great!"

 

#2) "I had no idea. I am so excited!"

 

#3) "This is such a nice surprise, thanks so much for this."

 

#4) "Unbelievable, I never expected it."

 

#5) "Wow, this is great, I appreciate this."

 

#6) "Oh my gosh, this is wild, I didn't have a clue about this."

 

#7) "Wow, how awesome is this?! I was completely surprised."

 

#8) "You guys are great, thanks for all of this."

 

 

So the next time someone surprises you, you don't need to stay quiet and worry about saying the right thing- use one of these eight phrases and you will be able to express your appreciation for the surprise. I hope you enjoyed this lesson.
