2 REAL English Questions to Start a Conversation at a Professional Event

Posted by Lindsay McMahon on Thu, Oct 09, 2014 @ 12:01 PM

Did your English teachers in school teach you "textbook English"?

Are you now out in the business world and are you frustrated because you realize that the phrases that you learned in school aren't actually used in real life English?

If so, I will teach you two great questions to start a robust English conversation at a professional networking event in English.

Check out my video below!

Two REAL English Phrases to Use at a Professional Event

#1) "Tell me about your work"

This is better than asking "what do you do?" because it gives more room for creativity.

The person can tell you about any aspect of his work that he thinks is noteworthy.

When you give the person room to be creative in what they tell you, they will enjoy the conversation more and so will you!

#2) "What are you working on these days?"

This is also a more creative question.

They could tell you about a product that they are building, an upcoming presentation, or a recent goal that they have accomplished.

They don't have to say "I'm an accountant" or "I'm a lawyer."
